mic not working
Firstly, this is just to double check what you are doing, in Volumn Control -> Options -> Properties -> there is a "Recording" option, can you see that? That is what you are after I think.
Secondly, some dells (like mine) have the mike turned off during play back, which means if you are on eg. skype, you cannot hear and talk at the same time. No idea why Dell did this.
To change it, you actually have to open the registry, type "regedit" into Start -> Run.
Browse: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005\Settings
or search for "DisableMicFromPlayback", this can take a while.
Double click it, in the Value Data, change the last 01 to 00, click "OK".
Reboot and your mic should work.
